A Great Opportunity Is Upon Us
By Tyler Young
It’s hard to believe that spring is upon us, the first quarter of the year is gone, and that our Gospel Meeting is here. How thankful we should be for the opportunity to support yet another effort to build up the kingdom of God and invite the lost to hear God’s word.
We are anticipating that the gospel of Christ will be fully and faithfully proclaimed by brother Billy Lambert. He will speak “as the oracles of God (1 Peter 4:11), presenting the truth in love, and challenging us all to know, receive and live by God’s word.
A meeting requires us to rearrange our schedule in order to put spiritual things first. But the effort is well worth the benefits we receive from the singing, praying, and preaching. It allows us to come together to be saturated over several days with the word and worship of our Lord. What could we possibly be doing during the meeting that would be more important or more beneficial to our souls than hearing the word of God and worshipping with our brethren? Our attendance at or absence from the meeting will say a great deal about our love for the Lord, for the church, for our own souls and souls of the lost who need to hear the truth of the gospel. “Seek first the kingdom of God” (Matthew 6.33). The topics brother Lambert will be addressing in the meeting deal with important truths which all of us need to hear, and would be beneficial for those who are not members of Christ’s church. But in order to get visitors to come to the meeting we must personally invite them. That means the success of the meeting in reaching the lost depends on us inviting friends, family members neighbors, co-workers, and acquaintances. The meeting gives us an opportunity to edify and encourage one another as we worship and glorify God. Let us all make every effort to be present for every night, and we will surely be blessed for it.
