Are You Doing Your Part?
by Tyler Young
According to the word of God, each member of the church has a role to play in the work of God’s kingdom. Paul said,
But, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love (Eph. 4:15-16).
One thing is clear from these and other similar texts of the New Testament: Each and every member of the body of Christ has a place where God needs him to contribute to the growth of the body.
What are you contributing to the work at Kensington Woods? Are you just sitting idly by, coming and going from services, with little involvement in the work of the kingdom? Or are you seeking to be an active participant to supply whatever you can to the building up of the Lord’s body? Only when “every part does its share” can we truly experience the edification and growth we ought to long for and work together to make possible.
One way you can work with your brethren is through our Focus Groups, which we are in the process of resuming. If you are not in a group and would like to be, see Jim Dickson. The Visitation Program is always in need of workers to help us contact others who visit with us or to check on those among us who may need our encouragement or attention. We are still involved in helping our brethren in Bay St. Louis who are trying to recover from Katrina. Malcolm Berch would be glad to put you to work if you would like to help minister to our college students in some way. I’m sure the same is true with Jay Galloway and our youth. Ken Upchurch is always looking for teachers and helpers to take part in our Bible School program. Brian Anderson, our deacon in charge of “involvement,” would also like to help you find a place to serve.
There are opportunities before us, but the point we are making is that each of us needs to be contributing his part in whatever way he can to edify the body and serve the Lord. With a new year before us, let us all determine we are going to be what God designed us to be—functioning members of the body of Christ, actively contributing to the most important work in the world by serving the Lord as working members of the Kensington Woods Church of Christ. What greater blessing could there be?
